CONTEXT
The ISOS project has enabled the emergence of an active network of small islands managers in the Marittimo area and has also contributed to the creation and development of the SMILO association, which supports small islands around the world in their sustainable management of their resources and assets. The project partners were able to carry out pilot actions (energy, waste or heritage), raise awareness among various audiences about the fragility of island environments and the need to protect these environments. They actively contributed to the network created by their participation in the technical workshops for sharing good practices and by the joint drafting of the 2 white papers, key documents of the ISOS project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The ISOS+ project is almost made up of the same partnership, to which the SMILO association has naturally been added since it is the product of the initial reflections of the first project. ISOS+ connects past, present and future actions around a common vision of sustainable islands. This new project therefore aims to:
- Promote the products of the ISOS project such as the production of a series of mini movies dedicated to the pilot islands, the promotion of white papers through a specific webinar, the organization of the Celebrate Islands day on each pilot island…
- Develop the “Sustainable Islands” network by organizing two new technical workshops: ecological restoration in an island environment and agriculture in small islands.
- Broaden the good practices by allowing the islands to carry out an action either resulting from the recommendations of the ISOS project or addressing a new theme.
- Building an intervention strategy in favor of the sustainable development of small islands on a European scale which would make it possible to build the island projects of tomorrow.
As part of the project, SMILO is in charge of organizing the webinar about the promotion of ISOS white papers and, in collaboration with the Sardinia Region, the workshop on sustainable agriculture in small islands.
