GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Togo is faced with the increasing production of floating wastes occupying the islands of Aného, located in the 43 km segment of transboundary coast from Agbodrafo to Grand Popo and inserted between the sea and the Gbaga channel. They constitute the ultimate reservoir of effluents and solid wastes characterized by land-based inputs, runoff, leachates from dumpsites (household waste discharges by local residents) and atmospheric fallout from combustion (fuels, gasoline, incineration of household waste).
The nature of the latter, the occupation of the grounds and the crossing of urbanized, industrialized or tourist zones, moreover, contends to the waters the capacity to collect quantities of floating residues. Thus, leaves, plastics, cans, … come to clutter the islands, disturbing the flow of water, likely to degrade the quality of the latter with a direct impact on the landscape environment.
