GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Nevis is a small island situated in the Caribbean Sea and is a part of the inner arc of the Leeward Islands chain in the West Indies. Together with its neighboring island of Saint Kitts, they form a single country known as the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Nevis is located towards the northern end of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, around 350 kilometers (220 miles) to the east-southeast of Puerto Rico and 80 kilometers (50 miles) to the west of Antigua. The island spans an area of 93 square kilometers (36 square miles), with its capital city being Charlestown.
